Clubs & Organizations
POP Chess Club is open to 2nd - 8th graders. We partner with Chess America - they provide chess classes given by local chess professionals across the United States in schools and libraries. All instructors undergo thorough background checks, and are screened for their skills as teachers in addition to their chess experience. Chess clubs are typically held after school. Tournaments are held the last few classes of each program, and they are enjoyable for all. All participants get trophies or medals or other prizes- no one goes home empty-handed. No chess equipment is necessary, as Chess America provides all chess sets and instructional materials. Visit Chess America for more information or contact Ms. Heather Hornor.
In Scouting, boys and girls start with their best right now selves and grow into their very best future selves. It’s fun, hands-on learning and achievement that puts kids in the middle of the action and prepares them for today – and for life. For information specific to Prince of Peace, please visit the Pack 404 website.
Destination Imagination (DI)
The Destination Imagination program is a fun, hands-on system of learning that fosters students’ creativity, courage and curiosity through open-ended academic Challenges in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), fine arts and service learning. 7th and 8th grade students have a wonderful opportunity to participate in the junior acolyte ministry serving the entire Prince of Peace Catholic Community.
Random Acts of Kindness (RAK)
Random Acts of Kindness is a service based organization for 6th - 8th graders. RAK is a group that focuses on the students spiritual development and works in conjunction with the goals and values of the school. In RAK meetings and projects, the students develop the virtues of kindness, compassion, hope, charity, and love. For more information, please contact our Christian Service Coordinator, Mrs. Erin Thoele.
The POP Safety Patrol Program is an excellent opportunity for our students to be daily examples of the virtues in action. Students in this program are 5th and 6th grade student volunteers and serve at either the St. James, Cana Center, or CLC morning carpools.
Speech Team is a diocesan-sponsored activity in which any middle school student may participate. It provides a fun, relaxed environment for students to develop and receive constructive feedback on their presentation and public-speaking skills. Participation in Speech Team looks GREAT on high school applications. Additionally, it helps to build confidence and poise for activities like classroom presentations and future high school interviews. Please visit the POP Speech Team Page or contact Mrs. Becca Edwards for more information.
Elected middle school students make up the student council, organizing middle school social events and service opportunities. For more information, please contact our Student Council sponsor, Mr. Kenny Stack.
