Prince of Peace students take the "Iowa Assessment," a nationally normed test required by the diocese of Dallas.
Because we are blessed with students who come to us from well educated, smart families, it would be disingenous for us to report our scores as stand-alone scores vs. the national averages.
Instead, we want to know what impact POP is having on students as they move through each grade with us, regardless of their starting point. To do that, we look at each 8th grade class, and track their longitudinal progress when they were 4th graders, then 5th, then 6th, 7th and 8th graders, measuring their growth each year.
The charts below show Math, English/Language Arts (ELA) and "Composite" (a combination of all sections) scores, reported as "Grade Equivalences" (GE).

As an explanation, our current 8th graders had a Composite GE score of "5.8" as fourth graders. This means their overall performance was the same as typical fifth graders in their eighth month. Or to say it differently, they were "+1.8 GE's" above the national average. By 8th grade, these same students scored a "13+" GE for their composite score, or "+5.0 GE's" above the national average. Their scores are what one would expect of the average freshman in college.
This doesn't mean they can skip high school! They don't know Chemistry, Algebra II, Western Civilization or Shakespeare yet. Rather, it means if freshmen in college took the same test, their average score would be similar to our 8th graders.
This pattern of tremendous growth for our students has been consistent.
